Navigating the Aftermath of a Motor Vehicle Collision

A motor vehicle accident often impacts far more than vehicle panels and physical injuries. It is entirely common for the nervous system to remain stuck in an acute fight-or-flight state long after a collision. You might experience a racing heart when approaching intersections, sudden panic when another vehicle merges closely, hypervigilance on highways, or an exhausting urge to avoid driving altogether.

Intrusive memories, disrupted sleep, concussion-related emotional fatigue, and feelings of vulnerability are protective survival responses to physical shock. Whether you were the driver, a passenger, a pedestrian, or a cyclist, British Columbia's ICBC Enhanced Care model covers all individuals injured in a motor vehicle collision. When left unattended, collision-related stress can strain your daily independence, work life, relationships, and basic peace of mind.

ICBC Enhanced Care Coverage & Clear Guidelines

Under British Columbia's ICBC Enhanced Care model, individuals injured in a motor vehicle crash can access up to 12 pre-approved counselling treatments during the first 12 weeks after a crash, subject to applicable ICBC eligibility and conditions.

Important Coverage Information: The current ICBC standard counselling fee is $160 per 50-minute treatment, which we direct-bill to ICBC for eligible claims. To initiate treatment, clients need an active ICBC claim number and Personal Health Number (PHN). No medical doctor referral is required for pre-approved care during the initial 12-week window, and direct billing/coverage should be confirmed prior to treatment.

Please note: Additional treatment beyond the initial 12 weeks is not automatic. Ongoing coverage depends on ICBC review, clinical progress, and claim adjuster approval. We never promise universal $0 cost, guaranteed coverage, or automatic approval, and we encourage clients to confirm their claim details with their ICBC recovery coordinator.

Frequently Asked Questions About ICBC Counselling

Do I need a doctor's referral to start ICBC counselling?

No. Under ICBC Enhanced Care, individuals involved in a motor vehicle accident do not require a physician's referral to access pre-approved clinical counselling during the first 12 weeks following the collision. You simply provide your active ICBC claim number and Personal Health Number (PHN).

How many counselling sessions does ICBC cover?

Under standard Enhanced Care guidelines, up to 12 counselling treatments are pre-approved within the first 12 weeks following the date of the collision. Rimsha bills the current ICBC standard rate of $160 per 50-minute session directly to ICBC for eligible claims.

What happens if I still need support after 12 weeks?

Continued treatment past the initial 12 weeks is not automatic. If further psychological support is clinically recommended, Rimsha will submit an ICBC Treatment Plan and progress assessment on your behalf to request additional funded sessions from your claim representative.

What if my accident was more than 12 weeks ago?

While standard pre-approval applies to the initial 12-week window following a crash, individuals seeking care after 12 weeks can still access funded treatment. Rimsha can coordinate directly with your ICBC claims representative or submit a clinical treatment plan alongside a note from your family doctor to request treatment authorization. You can inquire during your free consultation and we will review your claim status together.

Can I attend ICBC counselling virtually from anywhere in BC?

Yes. All therapy sessions are delivered virtually via secure video or phone across Surrey, Delta, Metro Vancouver, Vancouver Island, the Interior, and throughout British Columbia. Virtual sessions eliminate the stress of driving, traffic, and commuting during physical and psychological recovery.
