Burnout & Perfectionism Counselling

QUICK CLINICAL SUMMARY

Burnout and perfectionism counselling helps high achievers, healthcare workers, corporate professionals, and caregivers decouple their self-worth from productivity, establish sustainable emotional boundaries, and recover from chronic nervous system exhaustion. Virtual therapy across BC.

Is This Support Right for You?

You might resonate with this counselling focus if you are navigating:

  • ✓ You constantly feel that whatever you achieve is never quite enough, leading to relentless self-criticism.
  • ✓ You struggle to say 'no,' fearing that setting a boundary will disappoint colleagues, managers, or family.
  • ✓ You feel chronically depleted, irritable, or emotionally detached from your work and creative interests.
  • ✓ Downtime triggers intense guilt or anxiety because you feel you 'should' be doing something productive.
  • ✓ You hold yourself to impossibly high standards while extending grace and forgiveness only to others.

The Hidden Cost of High Achievement

In today’s hyper-connected professional world — especially in fast-paced hubs like Metro Vancouver — perfectionism is frequently rewarded on the surface while quietly eroding physical health, emotional intimacy, and mental well-being underneath.

Perfectionism is rarely about high standards alone; it is fundamentally a protective strategy against vulnerability, shame, or perceived rejection. You might find yourself over-preparing for meetings, obsessing over minor errors, taking on extra assignments to avoid disappointing others, or working long hours until your body forces you to stop.

How Rimsha Works With Burnout and Perfectionism

Rimsha Qureshi, MACP, RCC provides a collaborative, compassionate therapeutic space to examine the roots of your drive:

  • Decoupling Worth from Productivity: Untangling the belief that you only deserve rest, love, or belonging when you are producing or helping others.
  • Challenging All-or-Nothing Standards: Cognitive strategies to embrace "good enough" without compromising professional integrity.
  • Somatic Boundary Work: Tuning into physical warning signs of exhaustion (jaw clenching, migraine, digestive issues) before complete collapse occurs.
  • Navigating Cultural & Intergenerational Pressures: For South Asian professionals and children of immigrants, honoring familial gratitude while setting healthy personal boundaries.

What Sessions Look Like

Virtual sessions provide a quiet sanctuary where you are not evaluated, graded, or managed. In 50-minute appointments, we examine your daily habits, unearth the underlying fears driving your perfectionism, and design realistic changes to restore balance to your life.

Fees, Extended Health & Direct Billing

Clinical sessions are $160 / 50 min. Most British Columbia extended health insurance plans cover sessions with a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC).

We provide direct billing for participating extended health plans via TELUS eClaims and Provider Connect (e.g. Pacific Blue Cross, Sun Life, Canada Life, Manulife), as well as direct billing for eligible ICBC Enhanced Care claims. Official receipts containing Rimsha Qureshi's BCACC registration (#29320) are issued immediately following every session for seamless submission.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will therapy make me lose my drive or ambition?

No. The goal of perfectionism counselling is not to eliminate your ambition or competence, but to decouple your achievements from your fundamental worth as a human being. When motivation is fueled by values rather than fear of failure, your work becomes sustainable, creative, and far less exhausting.

How does burnout differ from depression?

Burnout is typically context-dependent, stemming from prolonged, unmanaged workplace or caregiving overload. When detached from those demands, enjoyment often returns. Depression, by contrast, is a pervasive mood condition affecting all areas of life. Therapy helps identify where you are on this continuum.

How do we practice setting boundaries without feeling intense guilt?

We explore the origins of your people-pleasing patterns, practice boundary communication scripts, and work through the physical discomfort that guilt initially evokes, reframing boundaries as acts of preservation.

Can I direct bill my sessions through extended health benefits?

Yes. Registered Clinical Counsellors (RCC #29320) are covered under most standard extended health insurance plans in British Columbia. We offer direct billing for participating insurers.
